Gizzada is a traditional Jamaican pastry. We eat it as a snack/dessert. Some Jamaicans would say that they eat it for "breakfast, lunch or dinner."
How do we make it?
We grate fresh coconuts and cook them with Jamaican spices such as ginger, nutmeg and vanilla and this serves as the filling. Then, we create a dough cup by pinching the edges of the dough with our fingers. Some people call this pastry "pinch me round," because of this technique. After the dough cup is made, we add the cooked coconut filling to the middle and bake to perfection for you. It's the perfect combination of crispy, flaky on the outside and soft and flavorful in the middle.
